Lake ManyaraNational Park
A lakeside park where green forest, Rift Valley views and wildlife come together.

Forest first. Then the lake.
Lake Manyara sits beneath the Rift Valley escarpment, with groundwater forest giving way to open areas and lake views. Baboons, monkeys and birds make the forest worth exploring slowly.
The park offers a different setting from the wide Serengeti plains. Leave time for the scenery and smaller sightings, rather than making the visit depend on one particular animal.
Forest wildlife
Look for monkeys and baboons among the trees.
Rift Valley scenery
Enjoy the escarpment and the changing views towards the lake.
Birdlife by the water
Watch the shoreline and wetlands for seasonal bird activity.

A small park.
A varied day out.
Choose the pace around your interests, with time for both forest and lakeshore.
Drier safari months
The drier season is one window to consider for wildlife drives. Include time for the shaded forest and the changing views between the escarpment and the water.
Forest and lakeside scenery
Greener periods can give the park another character. Lake levels and bird activity vary, so enjoy the forest and wider landscape as well as the shoreline.
A northern circuit stop
Lake Manyara can fit alongside Tarangire, Ngorongoro or Serengeti. The most useful stop depends on your driving route, interests and how many days you have.
Lake levels and bird numbers vary through the seasons.
Before you go
Will I see the tree climbing lions?
Lake Manyara is associated with lions resting in trees, but they are not a guaranteed sighting. The forest, birds and lakeside scenery are good reasons to visit in their own right.
Can I combine Manyara with Ngorongoro?
Yes. Both can be considered within a northern Tanzania safari. Share your dates so we can discuss the order and overnight stops.
